The Lucas County Probate Court forms part of the 88 counties who have a probate division of its court of common pleas. The Probate Court handles Wills, Guardianships, Adoptions, Living Trusts, and Vehicle Transfers. Copies of an existing Marriage License, Birth, and Death Records may be obtained.
Marriage License may be obtained to the bride and groom if both are present together at the time the application is made. The legal age for obtaining a marriage license without parental consent is 18. Both the bride and groom must have a valid, Government Issued, picture ID, (only Driver's License, State ID card, Passport or Military ID will be accepted) and we ask that social security number be provided, but is not mandatory. In addition, any applicant under the age of 21 must present a certified birth certificate listing parent's names.
Wills become effective and may be obtain only when the obtainer is unable to communicate their wishes and are permanently unconscious or terminally ill. Probate property is distributed only under the decedent's will or according to Ohio law. A probate proceeding takes place in the probate court of the county where the deceased property owner lived.
The Juvenile division under The Lucas County Court of Common Pleas decides cases involving juveniles. Cases evolved persons under 18 years of age. Some cases deal with unruly, abused, dependent, and neglected children. Adult cases involving paternity, child abuse, nonsupport, visitation, custody, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor take place at the Juvenile Division.
