Lucas County Parks are operated by the Metroparks of the Toledo Area. The Park District was established in 1928 and now has grown to the following eleven parks: Oak Openings Region, the Great Black Swamp and the Maumee River , Ottawa River and Swan Creek corridors. These eleven scenic parks and the two recreational trails form average 8,000 acres of natural, historical and cultural parklands in Lucas County . Each of the Metroparks offers ample picnic areas, playfields, trails for hiking and cross-country skiing.
