Lucas county Hospitals are the following four major acute care hospitals: The Toledo Hospital with 705 beds; St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center with 580 beds; Medical College and Hospitals of Ohio with 319 beds; and St. Anne Mercy Hospital with 80 beds.
St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center has more than 62,898 Emergency Center Visits, 1,089 Births, 499 Open Heart Surgeries, and 17,614 Inpatient Admissions. This hospital was established in 1855. With its 756 Physicians, St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center is home to four Life Flight air ambulances, holds the highest designation for treating high risk mothers & babies, is a Level I Trauma Center for children & adults and is an accredited Chest Pain Center . In addition it is staffed by physicians in the hospital 24-hours-a-day in the following specialties: anesthesiology, emergency medicine, general surgery/trauma, neonatology (care for critically ill babies) and obstetrics.
